Writing Realizations

Today, I came to a sad realization for the plot of book 2 that I've been ignoring for some time. It caused mental and emotional turmoil for me. I don't want to put it into The Eclipse, but I know that there is no getting out of it. I hate to see this element leave, but it is time for me to say goodbye.
Most of us have moments like this when writing. We're forced to take out characters we love or put in elements that we don't want. There's no changing the path that our plots are predetermined to follow. From the moment we start that first sentence, we've set in a motion a chain of events and circumstances - many of them well beyond our control.
I'd tell you what the realization I came to is, but as River Song of Doctor Who says: "Spoilers, sweetie."
What plot twists have you point in your writing that you weren't entirely happy about?

God bless,
Brian

  1. One of my very favorite characters dies, and it breaks my heart. I actually cried when I wrote that chapter. But there was absolutely no way the story could work if he was alive, so I had to do it.
I know exactly how you feel.

  2. I know what you mean. I went through a lot of this when I was working on the series I will be publishing. It was very sad and depressing, but there was no getting around it. (Chocolate is supposed to help.)

  3. I was editing one of my stories today when I realized--drats, that scene needs to go. Bother, but it will make it better.
